CIMA

Pandemic. Trauma. Two words probably not seen together before 2020, will form the theme of this short virtual conference from Crisis Intervention and Management, Australasia (CIMA).

While the Covid-19 pandemic continues to threaten medical, research and public-health authorities in our part of the world, the mental health cost remains uncertain. Adversity can inspire stoicism and personal growth but also bring psychological distress and trauma.

Trauma signals shock, damage, and disruption to a functioning system so this conference will consider three systems of human health:

Person, Place and Environment.

As long as the pandemic persists the world will face a series of new crises requiring management. CIMA represents the body in Australasia best placed to train, educate and respond to the psychological crises yet to occur.

Two international speakers will bring their expertise and experience of the pandemic in their countries to advance our knowledge, understanding and best-practice now and into the future.

Hear Patty Stewart Mc Cord, Patty Steward McCord is a long-recognised leader in crisis intervention in Canada including a Premier's Award for Excellence after the Dene High School shootings. She is the author of 'Healing Ways: Group Crisis Interventions for Indigenous Peoples' and co-leads the network supporting over 50,000 healthcare workers during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Hear Angela Lewis , a leading figure in crisis intervention in Scotland, having served as an Aircraft Commander in the UK's Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm. She introduced and developed crisis intervention training in several high-risk organisations including healthcare, fire, rescue and aviation. Her phased approach to the pandemic saw improvements at all levels of healthcare management and leadership.
