This intensive 5 days course is conducted by renowned clinical psychologist, Dr. Rob Gordon, PhD, FAPS, FCCLP, and is designed to equip experienced human service professionals with the knowledge and skills to address trauma and critical incidents in high-stress environments.

Key Training Components:

  • Theory of critical incident stress, traumatic stress and crisis;

  • Information about stress responses and symptoms of stress and trauma;

  • Discussions of work-related hazards and stresses;

  • Theory and practice in psychological first aid;

  • Principles of management and support for affected staff;

  • Demonstrations of Defusing and Debriefing technique;

  • Opportunities to develop skills through exercises and observation;

  • Discussion of participants’ experiences and workplace issues.

About Dr. Rob Gordon

Dr. Rob Gordon is a clinical psychologist who boasts 18 years of experience as the Clinical Director of the Victorian Department of Human Services CISM Service and serves as a consultant to various government departments, including Education and Training, Families, Fairness, and Housing for Emergency Recovery, as well as the Australian Red Cross Emergency Services. With a rich history of training at esteemed institutions like Monash, Melbourne, Swinburne, and New England Universities, he holds roles as the President of the Australian Confederation of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapies and the Director of Training for the Australian Association of Group Psychotherapists. He also conducts a private practice specializing in group and individual psychoanalytic psychotherapy and organizational consulting.
